Since the current Whitchurch site first had to close for investigations into a leak local Conservative Councillors, Peggy Mullock, Gerald Dakin and Tom Biggins have been pushing for facilities to be restored to the town. In the summer of 2021, Shropshire Council were told through reports that a new centre was the most viable option.
Councillors have lobbied hard for that option to be taken forward. The result is a set of proposals for a brand new £12.1 million facility with a new pool, rooms, gym and café.
An eight-week long consultation on the proposals to replace the old swimming pool opened today and you can take part here: https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/get-involved/whitchurch-swimming-and-fitn…
Conservative Councillor Peggy Mullock said: "Delighted that the residents of the town now have a chance to share their comments and ideas about our new pool before the plans are finalised."
Conservative Councillor Gerald Dakin added: "I am delighted that Whitchurch Swimming pool has received this capital investment, it is long overdue and welcomed by the Town and district areas. Thanks to Cabinet and the portfolio holder, this has been made a priority thanks to them and my fellow Conservative colleagues who have pursued this facility."
