One of Oswestry Town Councils Conservative Councillors has helped ensure the council will be providing support to Ukrainian refugees settling locally.
Les Maguire had raised the issue and tabled a motion alongside another Councillor to set aside £10,000 from council funds to provide a mixture of support through counselling and direct financial support to families.
Fellow Councillors agreed with the principle of the idea and Officers were asked to come back with specific proposals of how funds could be used to support those refugee Ukrainians in the area.
Councillor Les Maguire said: “I just felt that we should be doing something at a really local level to support these people that have been forced to leave their homes. They will be part of our local community and we can play a small part in making that transition easier.”
